The Utah Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing is vested with licensing of all professions in beauty services. The basic licenses given are barber, cosmetologist, esthetician, electrologist and nail technician. Master licenses too are issued in these trades to experienced workers. The following are the training hours required for various occupations:

Cosmetology: 2000 hours
Esthetics: 600 hours
Electrology: 600 hours
Nail Technology: 300 hours

Additional requirements of age and minimum education do exist and these vary between the trades. Candidates are required to appear for an examination in the subject they wish to obtain license in.
